SOMERVILLE, ME – Arthur Richard Barnett, 77, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Alfond Center for Heath in Augusta, ME following a long illness and surrounded by his loving family. Born July 4, 1937, in Waterbury, Connecticut, he was the son of Clayton and Viola (Leavett) Barnett. Arthur attended schools in Connecticut and Maine, but later needed to be home to support his family. He married Christine L. Jones on August 4, 1956, in Augusta, ME and they shared 47 years together before her passing on February 14, 2003. They built their home of love in Somerville, ME, and raised four loving children, Darlene L. Landry, Daniel A. Barnett, Dionne S. Barnett and Dana E. Barnett. Arthur worked at Edwards Cotton Mill in Augusta, ME for several years and left to be employed at Hudson Paper/Statler Tissue in Augusta, ME. He served the town of Somerville on the school board committee, second and third selectman, and various appointed committees within the town. Arthur and Christine enjoyed riding their motorcycle with many friends; they enjoyed many family vacations, and spending quality time with their four children, grandchildren, family and friends. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Clayton and Viola (Leavett) Barnett; his stepmother, Carol Mitchel; his mother in-law, Flossie Jones; his loving wife of 47 years, Christine (Jones) Barnett; his brothers, Clayton Barnett, Leo Barnett, and Joseph “Joey” Barnett; his sisters, Sharon, and Victoria Gagne; his great granddaughter, Alley C. Landry; and his beloved dog, Tilly. Arthur is survived by his four children, Darlene L. (Earle) Landry, Daniel A. (Rose) Barnett, Dionne S. Barnett, and Dana E. (Deborah) Barnett all of Somerville, ME; six grandchildren, Christopher and wife Amy Landry, Corey and fiancée Sarah Nichols, Crystal Landry, Nickolas Barnett, Derek and wife Aneta Barnett, and Danica and husband Robert Brown; six great grandchildren, Haley Landry, Nolan Landry, Tucker Landry, Mallory Landry, Nolan Brown and Emily Barnett; five brothers, James Smith, Jerry Barnett, Bruce Barnett, Robert Barnett and Herbert Barnett; eight sisters, Katherine, Linda, Patricia, Shirley, Carla, Judy, Donna and Tina; his beloved sister-in-law, Clara Jones-Brown; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a special friend, Lessie Lloyd. Arthur touched many lives with his wonderful sense of humor and heartwarming smile that will be sadly missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday, March 27 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a funeral service to begin at 6 p.m. at Lawry Brothers-Gray Chapel, 207 Windsor Neck Road in Windsor, ME. Spring burial will be announced later where he will join his loving wife in the family cemetery in West Washington. The family would like to thank the ICCU at Alfond Center for Health in Augusta for the excellent care, compassion, sympathy and family support provided during this trying time along with all the rescue and ambulance staff.
