Carlene Anne Waugh Viekman entered into Glory on Friday, November 15, 2024, at age 94. She passed peacefully at home, with her family by her side. Carlene was born September 25, 1930, in Albion, Maine to George and Marguerite Waugh. She was faithful to God, her husband Richard of 67 years, and her family.
She graduated with high honors from Besse High School in 1948. She then continued her education at Providence Bible Institute, earning her degree in Elementary Education. This is also where she met the love of her life, Richard. They were married in 1954, and she became a pastor's wife.
Carlene was diligent at every job she held. She was a switchboard operator for China Telephone Company. She taught school in a one room schoolhouse in Searsmont. She was a baker for the Shop and Save bakery in Millinocket. She worked as a stitcher for DeLongs Sportswear in Harmony. And, She and Dad owned and operated a sporting goods store, The Gunshop, in Skowhegan for 8 years.
Having grown up on a dairy farm, she developed a deep love for all of God's creation. In her later years she especially loved to watch the deer and birds from her dining room windows.
Carlene was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. Hot meals, fresh baked bread and goodies were always awaiting us, keeping our home a warm and inviting place for all. No guest ever left our home unfed or unloved.
She endured all of Dad's ongoing projects, whether it was one of the two new home constructions, the renovations and additions, or his woodworking and cabinet making. She took joy in seeing the progress of each one.
She was an avid fan of The Boston Red Sox, and high school basketball tournaments, and loved to watch them with her children. Her mind was clear and sharp right to the end. She loved doing crossword puzzles, Wordle and Strands every day, often beating all of us.
We will painfully miss our mother's loving care, tender spirit, and compassionate heart. We love you Mom and can only look forward to being together with you and Dad in Glory one day.
Carlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her two sisters Joan Louise and Janet Tuttle, and her brother George Waugh Jr. She is survived by her children, Richard E Viekman and Connie of Gallup, NM, Carly Beth and Bruce Ballantyne of Palermo, ME, Jane Rebecca and Gary Kenney of Embden, ME, Jonathan D.
