David Clinard, 78, of Oakland quietly went to his eternal home on
March 21, 2026.
He was born in South Haven Michigan on December 14, 1947, the son of
Ruth Schnake and Basil Clinard. He attended Bangor Michigan schools
and Michigan State University. He married Bonnie Smith in 1970 and
they had two daughters, Sarah and Rebekah.
David worked as a Respiratory Technician at Thayer Hospital for many
years, encouraging patients with flowers, beautiful photos and most of
all his time. He was very involved with Right-to-Life efforts, having
worked in hospital neonatal intensive care units. He kept many a
preemie alive on emergency ambulance trips to Portland. He also helped
to found Crown Regional School in Waterville and served as principal
and teacher for a time.
He had a life-long love of the outdoors which found expression in hiking
adventures, mountain climbing and photography. His nature prints
beautify many local buildings and homes.
He was a past member of Calvary Temple and current member of Faith
Evangelical Free Church of Waterville, where he was active in various
ministries including a group for older men. He was recognized by those
who knew him as a gentle spirit with a giving heart who loved his Lord.
He is survived by his spouse Bonnie, of Durham; and daughters Sarah
of South Freeport; Rebekah and her husband Rocco, grandchildren
Joshua and Maria, all of Durham. And his faithful rescued golden
retriever 'Boomer'.
A celebration of David's life will be held at Faith Evangelical Free
Church in Waterville on May 30 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to Resolve Life Center, 257 Main Street, Waterville, ME.
