Augusta – Denis J. Mathieu passed away February 21, 2021 at Glenridge LTC Nursing Home after a long illness complicated by Covid-19. Denis was born in Waterville Maine on December 9, 1930 to parents Joseph and Josephine (Busque) Mathieu. He was a 1949 graduate of Waterville High School. He served in the Air Force and lived and worked in Connecticut for a short time. He married Rachel (Boulette) Mathieu in 1959 and had two daughters. He worked at Keyes Fibre until retirement in 1992. Denis is predeceased by his daughter Debra Morse; son-in-law, Hank Gagnon; sisters, Theresa McCallister and Marguerite Bouthot Hird; brother, Larry Mathieu; and nephew, Larry Hallee. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Gagnon of Winslow ME; grandchildren, Rachel Gagnon of Haverhill MA, Mel Gagnon of Winslow ME, Justin Morse of Denver CO; special grand/Godson Curt Morse; former wife, Rachel Mathieu; devoted sister-in-law, Doris Mathieu; sister, Lorraine Hallee of LosLitos CA; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the “Valley” at Glenridge, as well as Gil from Health-Reach Hospice.
