Dennis Ronny Kyes 1949 – 2025 Dennis Kyes, a life-long resident of Skowhegan, Maine and, as legend has it, the greatest skier ever to rip Narrow Gauge headwall at Sugarloaf, USA, died peacefully at home on March 1, 2025. Dennis was born in Skowhegan, Maine on December 1, 1949, to Ernest and Della (Jacques) Kyes. He, along with his three brothers, Gayton, Dana, Jeff, and sister, Diana, grew up in a house attached to their family motel in Skowhegan. Upon graduating high school in his hometown, Dennis attended college in Boston before finding his way back to central Maine, specifically Sugarloaf Mountain, where he met his future wife, Penny Perkins. Penny and Dennis settled in Skowhegan, had two children, Derek and Timothy, and became business owners, purchasing Kyes Garage from his grandparents, Lester and Margaret, in the late 1970's. During the 1990's, Dennis pivoted to managing his property as a commercial real estate business and continued to do so for the remainder of his professional life. Dennis was blessed with the addition of new family members with the births of his four grandchildren Owen, Leo, Aidan, and Poppy, who all adored "Gramps" and enjoyed the sweet Bankery treats that were always plentiful when they came to visit. He spent the final two decades of his life being lovingly cared for by his nephew Michael Hunt and his husband Matt DuBois. The final gift for Dennis was the birth of his great nephew Jensen Michael DuBois in November 2024. In his younger years, Dennis was an avid skier and was a lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan. He loved baseball and coached his sons during their time in youth baseball. What Dennis will be most remembered for is his unwavering positivity in the face of being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in his 30's. Although he was confined to a body that would fail him over the following 40 years, he could always be counted on to make you smile and never allowed himself to seek pity from anyone. He was and will always be a true inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with him. Dennis's family plans to celebrate his life at a yet to be determined date.
