DOROTHY ELLA HANSCOM
1933-2022
SIDNEY—Dorothy Ella Hanscom, 89, of Sidney passed away at oak Grove center in Waterville on July 30, 2022, with her family by her side.
She was born in Waterville on May 28, 1933, the daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Rebecca (Swift) Isbister.
Dorothy graduated from Cony High School in Augusta, class of 1952. She married Stanley Hanscom, Sr. on Oct. 28, 1959, and shared 38 years of marriage until his passing.
Her employment included working at Camp Keyes in Augusta, department of personnel, worked at Lionel Corp. in Irving, NJ, and was also a foster mom for several children.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy was a very caring person who loved children. She loved the camp that she and Stanley built, enjoyed going to the coast, lobster feeds, and fireworks.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, James, Frank, and Howard Isbister.
Dorothy will be sadly missed by her children, Susan (Hanscom) Huff and her husband, Stuart of Burnham, Stanley D. Hanscom, Jr. of Sidney, Loralie Wareing and her husband, Randy of VT., and Mary Hutter of Kansas; her grandchildren, Alexander (Courtney) of Burnham, Samuel of Gardiner, Whitney of Florida, Beth and Peter of Vermont, Becky of Lewiston, Jack of Mississippi, and Richard of Maine; and her great grandchildren Arliegh and Loretta Huff of Burnham, and Kayden Emmett of Lewiston. She will also be missed by her only surviving sibling Frederick Isbiter.
A time of visiting will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. with a memorial service to begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.
