Obituary

WINSLOW- Gay P. Maheu, 90, of Winslow, ME was called to the Lord on September 30, 2026. She was born on August 15, 1936, in Waterville, ME, the daughter of Wilfred and Gilberte (Roy) Rancourt. Gay was the eldest of four siblings (Ann Gilbert, deceased, Jeanette Leblanc of Florida, and William Rancourt of China, ME).

Upon graduating with honors from Waterville High School in 1954, Gay entered the work force and worked a wide range of office jobs.

She was married to Donald A. Maheu (deceased) on July 4, 1960. They celebrated 54 years of marriage and five children: Deborah Carr and her husband, Michael, Susan Perry and her husband, Colonel (Ret) Warren Perry, James Maheu and his wife, Kristen, Vera Maheu, and Robert Maheu and his wife, Dawn. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren (Matthew, Erin, Katie, Michael, and Sam) and 4 great grandchildren (Dalton, Grant, River, and Margot).

Mrs. Maheu was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and served as a volunteer there during coffee hours. As a life member of the Women’s Auxiliary Post 8835 of the Winslow VFW, she worked organizing the children’s Christmas parties. She used her love of sewing to construct quilts for aids babies and to dress teddy bears at Christmas for the Salvation Army. Gay could be found assisting at any school event her children were involved in including sports, band, and religious education. In her free time Gay enjoyed ballet, opera, reading, and coloring.

At the request of the family there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Notre Dame Parish, 116 Silver St., Waterville, ME. A light luncheon will follow the conclusion of mass in the church’s community room. Burial will take place at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 143 Blue Star Avenue in Augusta at 2:00 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Veilleux Funeral Home Waterville, ME.
