In Loving Memory of Gerardo Lopez Palomares

July 25, 1968 – October 18, 2026

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Gerardo Lopez Palomares, 58, of Waterville, Maine, who passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 25, 1968, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Gerardo was a man whose larger-than-life personality, infectious humor, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was the kind of person who could light up any room, make anyone laugh, and turn even the simplest gathering into a celebration. Outgoing, funny, and wonderfully stubborn, Gerardo was truly the life of the party. To know him was to love him.

Above all else, Gerardo was a devoted family man. He shared 36 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Norma Lopez, with whom he built a life centered around love, hard work, and family. He was an incredibly proud father to his daughters, Samantha and Paloma, and took great joy in watching them grow, pursue their education, and build lives of their own. One of his greatest blessings was becoming a grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Lyla, who brought him immeasurable happiness.

Gerardo had a heart that knew no limits when it came to giving. He was the first to offer a helping hand, often putting the needs of others before his own. He especially loved bringing people together over a good meal. Whether he was grilling for family, friends, or anyone who happened to stop by, he made sure everyone was fed, welcomed, and cared for. No one ever had to worry about going hungry when Gerardo was around. His generosity was simply who he was, and he gave freely without ever expecting anything in return.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Gerardo spent his career in bridge painting and rehabilitation, working as a foreman for CEKRA. He took tremendous pride in his work and dedicated countless years to providing for his family. Though his job could be demanding and often required sacrifices, he approached his responsibilities with determination and an unwavering work ethic. Everything he did was rooted in his desire to give his family the best life possible.

In the final chapter of his life, Gerardo faced an aggressive battle with cancer that tested his strength in ways no one should ever have to endure. He underwent a life-changing leg amputation in hopes of overcoming the disease, showing extraordinary courage and determination throughout his journey. Despite unimaginable challenges, he continued to fight with everything he had, holding on to the life and family he loved so dearly. He fought until the very end, demonstrating the same resilience and strength that had defined him throughout his life.

Although our hearts are shattered by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace and free from suffering. His illness may have taken him from us far too soon, but it could never take away the love he gave, the laughter he shared, or the countless lives he touched.

Gerardo leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Norma Lopez; his cherished daughters, Samantha and Paloma; and his treasured granddaughter, Lyla, along with extended family members and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, José Matilde Lopez Tobías and María Agapita Palomares Vásquez.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Gerardo’s life and pay their respects on Tuesday, October 20, and Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Veilleux-Redington-Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville, Maine.

Gerardo will be remembered not for the illness he endured, but for the extraordinary man he was: a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, a loyal friend, a hardworking provider, and a man whose kindness and laughter made the world a little brighter.

His greatest legacy is not measured by the years he lived, but by the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind.

Forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
