Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Gordon Allen Otis announces his passing late Thursday evening, December 18, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on September 13, 1939, Gordon was the beloved son of the late Raymond and Maitland (Basford) Otis. He grew up in Fairfield alongside his two brothers, Raymond and Jimmy, and his sister Nancy. In the fall of 1961, Gordon married the love of his life, Janet Snell of Madison, Maine. Living on Montcalm Street in Fairfield, they raised their three children: sons Michael and Stephen, and daughter Roberta "Bobbi." Gordon dedicated 40 years of service as an electrician and as the supervisor of the electrical department at the Keyes Fibre Company in Fairfield Maine. Retiring with pride after a long and accomplished career. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family. A devoted husband, father, brother and friend whose steady presence and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. To Janet, they shared countless adventures together. Traveling to Alaska, exploring national parks, and journeying through Europe. They also built their dream home on Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes together. To his children, Gordon was their hero and greatest supporter. He taught them the value of hard work, and the importance of family. Beyond his work and family, Gordon found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing on Maine's lakes, sharing quiet mornings with his wife while reading the newspaper and tackling that days Sudoku. Gordon's sense of humor was ever-present. He could lighten any room with a playful grin and a smile. He cherished time spent outdoors, whether tinkering in the garage, or going hunting and fishing. His ability to listen with patience made him a treasured companion to friends and neighbors alike. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet Otis, and their three children: Michael Otis and his wife Susan; Stephen Otis and his wife Debra; Roberta "Bobbi" (Otis) Bailey and her husband Bill Bailey. Gordon was blessed with seven grandchildren—Matt Otis, Jamie Frederick, Blake Potter, Taylor Spencer, Brittney Wiseman, Lexi Otis, and Peyton Pickett—and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Otis and his wife Carmen. Gordon was predeceased by his brother James "Jimmy" Otis and his sister Nancy Carol (Otis) DeRaps.
