WINSLOW- Ian John Miller, of Winslow, Maine, passed away on September 14, 2026, at age 49.

Ian was born on November 17, 1976, in Lewiston, Maine to Marcia Miller and Ernest John Miller, of Turner. Ian was a 1995 graduate of Leavitt High School. He attended Tufts University and the University of Maine at Farmington, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business/Managerial Economics, graduating alongside his brother Nate.

Ian is survived by his wife, Esther Miller, his sons, Gavin and Roman Miller, step-children William Alger and Victoria Bouchard, mother Marcia Miller, brother Nate Miller and his wife, Dani, his niece Ruby Miller, best friend Tim Marecki of Florida, his cats Gucci and Fendi, and many other family and friends. Ian was predeceased by his father, Ernest John Miller, and grandparents Ernest and Clara Miller and Lionel and Helen St. Hilaire.

Ian loved his sons more than anything and cherished his time with them. He was proud of their accomplishments, which he was quick to share with others. His favorite family traditions with them included Miller family camping in Bar Harbor for the 4th of July and Thanksgiving dinners. He enjoyed listening to them giggle as young children and supporting them as they began mapping out their lives as adults. He loved throwing them into the pool when they were young, with the help of his brother Nate. Quality time with his sons often involved throwing a pizza in the oven or grabbing takeout and watching countless movies and shows such as Rick and Morty, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and James Bond. He loved to tell his boys to get good, knowing well how smart they both are.

Ian began his career in state service at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services as a Support Enforcement Agent (DSER), transitioned into the role of Eligibility Specialist, and earned a series of promotions from Helpdesk Supervisor to General Assistance Program Manager, then SNAP Director (OFI). Ian was most recently the Maine Integrated Health Management Services Operations Manager (OMS), where he earned recognition for integrity and transparency. The positive impact of Ian’s dedication to supporting Maine people will extend far beyond his time here and he will be remembered fondly by those he worked with for his knowledge, kindness, sense of humor, and the Monster energy drinks he always carried with him.

He met the love of his life, Esther, while working in state service, and they were married at Popham Beach on May 14, 2022. Together they navigated career shifts, raised teenagers to become young adults, and supported each other’s dreams while building new family traditions. Ian called Esther his “person” and was eternally grateful for her home cooked meals, which he was more than happy to pay for with foot rubs. Ian welcomed Esther’s children as his own. He appreciated William’s passion for music and Victoria’s self-assuredness. Ian loved piling all the kids into the car and taking trips to Canobie Lake or even just to Binga’s or B-Dubs to see who could eat the hottest wings.

Ian was active on Discord and had many friends in the XRP Community. He was a founding member of the xPEPE project and was active in other projects across the XRP space. Gillly, as he was known, will be remembered by his friends there with love and has been memorialized in special projects. Ian, literally the best at being humble, was also fantasy football enthusiast and an avid investor in silver and gold. He enjoyed reading horror and fantasy fiction, big breakfasts, family dinners, croquet, board games, and being a passive observer during get-togethers with friends and family. He cared deeply about the people and things that mattered to him and easily found humor in the absurdity of everyday life.

Ian was loved, he loved his family, and he is deeply missed. Services will be announced at a later date.
