James Harold Crosby
1934- 2023
Albion - James Harold Crosby, 88, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle. stepfather, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away Friday, June 2nd, 2023, at his home where he resided with his wife Joan, not far away from his son Jeffrey.
James (Sonny) was born on September 24, 1934, in Benton, Maine; the oldest of four children, born to Sherwin and Margarett Crosby. Jim grew up in Benton Station, went to grade school there and then attended Lawrence High School until graduation in 1953.
After completing two years at Thomas College, James received an Accounting and Administration Diploma in 1955. He joined the Navy Reserves and spent 2 years aboard the naval ship until being released in August 1957. Jim immediately went to work at Bath Iron works, in the Personnel Office for five years. James was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1961.
After Jim left BIW, and the Navy, he started his career with the American Tobacco Company as a salesman for 30 years. He married Peggy (Campbell) Crosby, they had two sons Steven and Jeffrey Crosby. They moved from Bath to Clinton until the boys were in high school.
James met his beloved wife and caretaker, Joan (Conary) Crosby, sharing many years of marriage and inheriting two more sons Chris and Shawn (Lisa) Conary; loving them as his own children with their feelings of mutual love back. They always looked forward to their many travels and time spent together.
After retirement, James enjoyed mowing his lawn, gardening, and taking care of his blueberry trees. He loved eating lobster or clams, spending time fishing, boating, or spending time at their Camp in Blue Hill. Jim liked telling stories, family gatherings and holidays with family and friends.
James belonged to the Masons Lodge which he was honored to be a part of with his oldest son Steven. Jim treasured his recent years and the days with his son Jeffrey, laughing, joking, eating Oreo cookies and reminiscing, up until hours before passing away.
James is survived by his wife, Joan Crosby of Albion; youngest son, and daughter-in-law Jeffery (Angel Monfort) Crosby of Benton; two stepsons Chris Conary and Shawn (Lisa) Conary; his grandchildren, Jason Crosby, Adam (Katie) Crosby, Marc (Mandi) Monfort, Rachel Crosby, and Kelsey (Derek) Clark; his great grand-children Layla, Kaden, Finn, Rylie, Theodore, Brynlee, Korben, Ben, Erin, Rylan, Braydon; his sister Lila Watson; his brother Ben Crosby; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, special friends neighbor Ray and neighbor Chris.
James was predeceased by his parents, Sherwin and Margarett Crosby; his oldest son, Steven Crosby; a sister, Janet Price; and a sister-in-law, Trudy Crosby.
The family would like to thank everyone that has sent their condolences, thoughts or kindness; thus far and continued prayers and support is very much appreciated! This has been a sudden shock to so many. Dad will be greatly missed as he was a fine man!
We will be having a grave side burial ceremony on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023, at 11:00 am; at Ames Cemetery in Benton; with a memorial gathering afterwards at Governor's in Waterville set for noon, and a buffet meal at 12:30pm.
