James L. “Jimmy” Wentworth Jr.

James L. “Jimmy” Wentworth Jr., 75, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and man of faith, passed away on September 20, 2026.

Jimmy was born in Waterville, Maine, raised in Vassalboro, and spent the last 20 years making his home in China, Maine. He was the son of James and Joyce Wentworth. He shared his childhood with a large family and is survived by his sisters, Tope Eugley, Cindy Kimball, Jeannie Poulin, Judy Goodrich and Barbara Worthley, and his brother, Doug Wentworth.

For 55 years, Jimmy shared his life with his wife, Cheryl “Cherrie” Wentworth. Together they built a family that became one of the greatest joys of his life.

He is survived by his three children: Melanie Fuller and her husband, Jerry, of Albion; James “JJ” Wentworth and his wife, Martha, of China; and Darrell Wentworth of China.

Jimmy was a proud grandfather to Shawn Esler, Kyle McLain, Harley Wentworth, Justin Wentworth, and Alexis Wentworth, and a great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and many wonderful friends.

Jimmy spent part of his working life as manager of Winslow Seafood before going to work for Shaw’s, where he remained until his retirement.

Some of Jimmy’s happiest times were spent camping and fishing. Pellerin’s Campground became much more than a place to camp—it became another home, filled with friends who became family.

Those who knew Jimmy knew a man who was loyal, witty and just the right amount of sassy. He loved his family fiercely, valued his friendships, enjoyed the simple pleasures of camping and fishing, and was certainly not known for having a limited palate—Jimmy appreciated good food and was willing to give just about anything a place on his plate.

Jimmy was also a Christian, and his faith became an important part of the man he was. As his family says goodbye, they do so with the comfort of knowing that the faith Jimmy carried has carried him home.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, James and Joyce Wentworth.

A memorial service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at China Church of the Nazarene on Route 3 in China, Maine, followed by a reception.

And because one celebration simply wouldn’t be enough for Jimmy, family and friends will gather again at 5:00 p.m. around the campfire at Pellerin’s Campground - a fitting place to share stories, laughter, memories, and perhaps a little of the sass Jimmy brought into so many lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be collected in appreciation of the hospice nurse who provided compassionate care to Jimmy and his family during his final journey, or donations to the Pellerin’s Campground Fourth of July Fund, helping continue the campground traditions and celebrations Jimmy enjoyed so much.

Jimmy leaves behind 55 years of marriage, generations of family, lifelong friendships, and countless memories shaped by laughter, fishing, and evenings around the campfire. Those who loved him will carry his wit, loyalty, and unmistakable sass in their hearts.

As family and friends gather around future campfires, cast lines into familiar waters, and share the stories Jimmy gave them, his presence will remain close. His faith assures us that he has gone home, while the love and memories he leaves behind keep him forever with us.
