Obituary

Clinton, Maine – In the early morning hours on Monday, July 29, 2024, Janelle Alberta (Nason) Doig, 73, passed into the arms of her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus, with her daughter Elissa at her side, spending much of the night reading her favorite Psalms and Proverbs to comfort her. Janelle (Nell/Nellie) was born on April 26, 1951, in Waterville, Maine. She is the daughter of Beverly Adams of Benton, Maine, and the late Robert Nason of Fairfield, Maine. She is also the oldest of seven siblings. Until a few months ago, Janelle was employed as a driver for the shuttle bus team for the Transportation Department at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. "Miss Janelle" was known to many students whom she regularly transported to Walmart and other areas around town. It was a source of personal gratification for her and not just a job. She enjoyed her work and looked forward to driving the students. Before that, Janelle owned and operated Dandelion Daycare in her home in Clinton, Maine. For more than thirty years, she took care of numerous families' children, sometimes for several years. Her husband Rick often lent a helping hand with the children, until his MS became too debilitating for him to continue. Over the years, "Nell" kept in touch with many of the children and their families. The family would like to thank the students and parents who reached out during her last days. It meant a great deal to her that she had not been forgotten by them, rather they continued to regard her warmly for their positive childhood experiences at the daycare. Janelle liked to say that she should write a book about the precious memories she made with the children over the years. She promised it would be a best seller. Janelle can be defined by the many things in life in which she took pleasure. For instance, she loved planting flowers around the home that she cherished because Rick had built it himself from the ground up over many years. Her lawn, always well-maintained, was further proof of the pride she took in her surroundings. It was a home and not just a house. She also enjoyed planting and had a bountiful vegetable garden. She was often outside weeding and watering her vegetables that she liked to share with her friends and family. But, her moment in the sun was undoubtedly the gift of loving care she provided for her husband for more than twenty years as he battled MS that eventually left him in a wheelchair. Janelle cared for him faithfully and willingly, never hesitating to meet any of his needs. Rick and Janelle were married on January 25, 1967, and they shared fifty years together until his passing. The Lord greatly blessed her ability and devotion as his caretaker. She was truly a loving wife "in sickness and in health," often unselfishly forsaking herself. These attributes carried over as she raised her children Elissa and Richie with a loving and strong hand. She was also much loved by her grandsons Nicholas and Andrew. Janelle was a longtime member of the Clinton Baptist Church. She faithfully attended services on Sunday, Wednesday night prayer meeting, and the adult Sunday School class. She supported the church with her time and talents, often as a part of the women's kitchen group. She loved her church family deeply and over the years had cultivated numerous lifetime friends, many of whom came to see her during the last couple of weeks, both at the hospital and at her home. The family would like to thank Pastor Mark Philbrick and other brothers and sisters in the Lord. They rejoice with her, knowing she has heard her Savior's words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Janelle is survived by her daughter, Elissa Doig-Vigue (Paul) and her two grandsons, Nicholas and Andrew Vigue, all from Clinton, Maine. She is also survived by her mother, Beverly (Pooler) Adams, as well as her siblings Carol Sturtevant (Nelson), Darlene Nason-Hersom (John), Bebe Howe (Cass), Kathy Adams, Robert Nason, Jr. (Sharise), Shelley Pushard (Scott), her sister-in-law Kristi Adams, and Richie's loving fiancée, Heidi Meunier. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Craig Doig (Dena) of Statesville, North Carolina, and their children Brent and Valerie Doig and Chelsea Doig-Kitchens (JD), also of Statesville, North Carolina. Her sister-in-law Melissa Mcleeier (Rex) resides in Clarksville, Tennessee. Melissa's daughter Kennedi Duncan resides in West Palm Beach, Florida. Additionally, she is survived by numerous other family members and close friends. Janelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard (Rick) Doig, Sr., and her precious son Richard (Richie) Doig, Jr. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Lucille and Alan Nason and Timothy Adams. Her sister-in-law Paulette Doig-Capps passed away several years ago. Janelle will be greatly missed every day, and we will keep her in our hearts forever. Our memories of her will bring peace and comfort and remind us of how blessed we are to have had her in our lives. She is a valued mother, daughter, grandmother, sibling, niece, cousin, and friend to all of us who love her for the special person she is. The family would like to offer thanks to the nurses and other caretakers from MaineGeneral Hospice. A warm and heartfelt thank you goes to Dawn Loram, especially, for her exceptional personal care to Janelle and other members of the family, including Rick Doig and Tim Adams. She is as much a friend to us as a dedicated and talented personal caretaker. The same thank you is given to Pastor Robert "Bob" Philbrick, who will conduct the graveside committal on Friday morning. Pastor Bob has been the family's spiritual inspiration and a personal friend for many years. We will always regard him with love and appreciation. There will be no funeral service or calling hours. A graveside burial will take place at the Green Lawn Rest Cemetery on Route 100 in Clinton, Maine. The committal service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
