John Herman Hageman, age 75, of Albion, Maine, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with his loving wife of 50 years, Gail Marie (Fritz) Hageman, by his side.

John was born on September 9, 1950, in Somerville, New Jersey, the son of William Harold Hageman and Dorothy (Vliet) Hageman. He grew up on a 200-year-old family dairy farm in Readington, New Jersey. He spent his youth in 4-H Dairy Clubs. He was a member of the Junior Leaders, where he participated in several trips to Washington DC and other states. He attended Hunterdon Central High School, graduating in 1968. He was a member of Readington Reformed Church and active in their youth group activities.

John earned his Bachelor of Science in Dairy Husbandry from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture in 1972. He was a member of the Delaware Valley Dairy Cattle Intercollegiate Judging team that placed third at Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, in 1971.

After college, John started as a dairy farmer in Canton and Ancram, New York. In 1990, John and his family moved to Albion, Maine, where he became a dealer/distributor of farm supplies for IBA Inc. for 36 years, until his retirement in June of this year. He found great fulfillment in the relationships he built with his dairy farmers throughout Maine.

John and Gail celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 5, 2026, with a wonderful family celebration. John was incredibly proud of both of his children, Kelly and Kevin. He held a particularly tender place in his heart for his daughter, Kelly, with whom he shared a truly special bond. John loved watching his son, Kevin, play sports growing up. Throughout the years he volunteered to coach Kevin’s youth teams and took his family to Belgium and Holland for a soccer tournament and vacation. His proudest moment was when Kevin and the Lawrence High School team won the Class A Soccer State Championship in 2002. To his family, John will always be remembered as hardworking, strong, humble, and unwaveringly loyal.

He is predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Hageman, and his brother, William Hageman.

John is survived by his wife, Gail Marie Hageman, his daughter, Kelly Marie Hageman of Albion, Maine, and his son, Kevin Andrew Hageman (fiancée Briana Brittany Rawson) of Lexington, Massachusetts. He is survived by his siblings, twin sister Janet (Dan) Harris of Bethany Beach, Delaware; brother Arthur Hageman of Ogdensburg, New York; and sister Beverly (Steve) Harris of North Clarendon, Vermont. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Arthur (Bridget) Hageman of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; Kristin (Brian) Peck of Easton, Pennsylvania; Jill (Tom) Harris of Ewing, New Jersey; Christopher (Jennifer) Harris of Boothbay, Maine; and Daniel Harris of Bethany Beach, Delaware.

Visiting hours are at Veilleux Funeral Home at 8 Elm Street in Waterville, Maine, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 11AM to 1PM.
