Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved father, husband, brother, and Papa, who passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026, surrounded by the love that defined his life. Born in the Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of Dr Merton Miller and Dr Winifred Miller.

A proud graduate of Newton North High School, he joined the United States Air Force in 1964, as combat medic where his adventurous spirit took him to Texas and Alaska before his deployment to Vietnam. Following his service, he returned to Massachusetts.

An adventurer at heart, he loved the outdoors and the freedom of the open water. He spent time playing on the shores of Cape Ann with his many beloved family members and friends , driving boats, fishing, and finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether he was saving a small creature in need or sharing a laugh with someone he loved, he had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.

His life took a beautiful turn in 1983 when he met Helen, the woman who would become his beloved wife of 39 years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, became the ultimate girl dad, and their shared adventures eventually brought him from the busy city life to Winslow, Maine.

A dedicated and hardworking man, he built a career in healthcare, beginning as a scrub technologist and working into materials management. Through determination and perseverance, he worked his way up to become the Purchasing and Distribution manager at Maine General, a position he held until his retirement in 2012. His career was a testament to his work ethic, resourcefulness, and commitment to providing for those in need.

Of all the roles he held throughout his life, none brought him greater joy than becoming a husband, father, and, especially, Papa.

Being Papa brought new colors to his world. He loved making memories with his grandchildren, sharing stories, fishing, making models, and playing games with them. He treasured time spent on many family vacations. In November, he took a road trip with his family from Washington, D.C., to the Outer Banks, creating memories that will remain a treasured part of their lives. He was deeply grateful for that trip and time with his extended family.

He leaves behind a family who will forever carry his love in their hearts: his beloved wife, Helen; his daughters and their husbands, Danielle and Michael Zemrak, Robyn and Erik Maheu; and his four cherished grandchildren, Maddox and Julien Maheu, Isla and Brighde Zemrak. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Price and her husband William; his brother, Charles, and his wife, Mary Trumbauer; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and dear friends.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to MaineGeneral Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.

Though our hearts are broken by his absence, we find comfort in the life he lived. His legacy lives on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share, the waters we visit, and the memories that will forever connect us to him.

A memorial visitation will be held at 10am and brief service at 12pm on November 6th,2026 at Veilleux’s Funeral Home in Waterville, ME. A military service at the Veteran’s Cemetery will be held at 2pm in Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Audubon Society in his memory. We invite those who knew and loved him to take a moment to appreciate a sunset, spend time on the water, and share a good belly laugh when you think of him.
