Obituary

John Pople passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022 with family members at his bedside. He was born August 8, 1933 in Kingston, Ontario. He was in the Canadian Naval Reserve where he met his loving wife Mary. Together they moved to Maine in 1958, where they built a home and started a family with two daughters, Karen (Godfrey) and Kathy (McGee). He was soon employed by Scott Paper company as a machinist and remained there until his retirement at age 58. He was president of the local machinist union and served on the Board of Directors at Taconnet FCU for many years. John loved the outdoors and enjoying fishing, camping, skiing, hunting and traveling with his family. Summer months you would often find him grilling for family gatherings around the backyard pool. John was a big man with an even bigger heart, evidenced by his years of volunteer work at the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen, and willingness to help anyone at any time, so much so that he earned the name "Handy Andy" by Mary. John is predeceased by his wife Mary. He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, six grandchildren as well as their significant others along with nine great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 19, 2022 at Notre Dame Church on Silver Street in Waterville at 11:30 AM. A Celebration of John's Life will be held following at O'Brien's Event Center, 375 Main St. Waterville at 1:30 PM.
