August 27, 2012 Rome: Joyce Anita Witham, 74 died Monday August 27, 2012 at her home here, surrounded by her husband and children.. She was born in Rome on April 19, 1938 the daughter of Kenneth and Virginia (Austin) Knights. Joyce attended Oakland schools, earning her GED. She was employed as head cook at Chrystal Spring Camps in Rome for more than 20 years. Joyce was Rome Town Clerk for a number of years, worked at the Rome General Store, was a CNA at AMHI and also helped at Witham s Residential Care in Sidney. Joyce was a former member of the Mount Phillip Grange. She enjoyed cooking and working in her flower gardens. She was predeceased by a son Kevin J. Witham, and 2 brothers Roland and Vernon Knights. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Leslie Witham of Rome who she married February 12, 1955, 5 sons; Leslie Witham Jr. Of Canaan, William Witham of Sidney, Todd Witham of Rome, Shawn Witham of Belgrade, and Troy Witham of Oakland. 3 daughters; Pamela Cummings of Sidney, Julie Smith of Rome and Lesley Real of Rome. 6 brothers; Edward, Kenneth, and Dana Knight of Rome, Eugene Knight of Norridgewock, Donald Knight of Lincoln, and Dennis Knight of Oakland. 3 sisters Esther Paul and Rolene Harris of Chesterville, and Linda Rackleff of Oakland. 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Center and HealthReach Hospice, especially her nurse, Kathy Roy for Joyces s wonderful care. A graveside service will be11:00 AM on Friday August 31 at Rome Village Cemetery, Mercer Road Rome. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oakland.
