Waterville: Linda M. Crosby 83, of Waterville Maine died peacefully on August 3, 2026, in Augusta Maine.

She was born on November 16, 1942, to Ralph and Sadie Crosby at home on the Crosby Farm in Benton Maine. She was born into a hard-working family and a country in the middle of World War. The Crosby family were running a small Dairy Farm, while at the same time, Ralph also worked full time as a night watchman at the Fairfield Woolen Mill. Linda was primarily raised by her mother Sadie and two of her youngest sisters, Louise and Jean, the older sisters, Nellie and Leah, were starting families of their own, as was her only brother Delbert. She grew up with 5 siblings, but due to the age difference, more like an “only child” with three mothers. This author is not sure where her “stubborn” streak came from genetically, but I assure you that it was the dominant trait for her throughout her life. She was quite proud of that fact and frequently professed her pride with being stubborn.

Linda’s childhood was normal by all accounts, and she attended school in a one room schoolhouse at Benton Proper. Starting in 5thgrade, she attended Benton Falls Elementary. In 7th grade she decided that she would rather attend Benton Station School, so she hid on the bus and tried to just blend in at the wrong school. It didn’t work out and she was returned, trying to make her own life decisions and be stubborn at the age of 12. She graduated from Lawrence High School in June of 1960.

Linda met her first husband, Lyndon Abbott, at school in the 8th grade. They dated through high school and married on June 23rd, 1961. After high school, Linda worked at Scott Paper in Winslow Maine. Her first child, Lyndon Jr, was born in April of 1962 and her second child, Lori, was born in February of 1963, not a typo, they are just over 10 months apart. Linda and her family lived in Vassalboro, Maine for several years before moving into a home on the Bellsqueeze Road in Clinton, Maine. Linda took a job as a Clerk of Courts in Newport, Maine in 1969 and transferred to the District Court in Waterville, Maine in 1971. She survived cancer in 1973 at the age of 31 with radiation and surgery, a rare survival for that type of cancer at the time. She and Lyndon divorced in the mid 70’s and she and the children remained in the house in Clinton.

Linda eventually sold the house in Clinton and bought a house in Benton while continuing to work as a clerk of courts. Linda loved family gatherings and family time, many Crosby family weddings over the years as well as summers spent at Delbert’s Pond on Albion Road. In the early 80’s she took a job at the Law Office of Sydney Geller in Waterville. She eventually met, dated and married Robert Michaud, they lived in Richmond, Maine and upon his retirement moved to Green Cove Springs, Florida. Linda then worked as a Clerk of Courts in Florida for many more years. Linda and Bob divorced and she returned to Maine in 1992, living in Winslow.  Linda then worked in the Town Office of Chelsea Maine until her retirement in her mid-60’s. Once retired, Linda lived in Seton Village in Waterville until her death.

Linda had an outgoing and curious personality, she loved to play cards, dance, camp, swim and boat. She loved music, the Oldies and was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. This author can attest that she was one of the greatest “Twist” dancers in New England. She loved to barbecue, pick and eat fiddleheads, all seafood, especially lobster, which was her lifelong weakness. For many years she made and sold Christmas wreaths, she loved to make them. She was a wonderful mother and the most devoted, doting grandmother humanly possible.

Linda is predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Sadie, her brother Delbert and her sisters Nellie, Leah, Louise and Jean.

Linda is survived by her son Lyndon and his wife Ardis, her daughter Lori, her grandchildren Alexandria, Morgan, Emily, Zachary and Dustin, her great grandchildren Grayson, Camille, Walker, Rhys, Ryan, Kian, Cassius and Hadrian. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with their children specifically, her nephew Roger Crosby and his wife Sharon, who spent a great deal of time with her during her retirement years.

At her request there will be a graveside service at the Falls Cemetery in Benton Maine on Rt 100 in July of 2027.
