Lucille
Giguere
Oct 29, 1918 — Dec 25, 2010
Waterville-Lucille B. Giguere, 92, (more recently called Lucy) passed away peacefully and comfortably with family by her side on December 25, 2010 at Oak Grove Nursing Care Center in Waterville. She was born on October 29, 1918, the youngest child born to William J. Giroux and Rose (Breton) Giroux.
She married Willie J.P. Giguere in 1944. They shared 64 wonderful years together. Willie died in 2008.
She was employed as a weaver for 17 years at the Lockwood Mill until 1954 when she became a homemaker. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish. She believed in an active life. At 90 years old, with her walker at her side, she was raking leaves at the home she loved for 50 years. This, she believed is what kept her “young”. She was an avid reader, loved animals, people and her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She brought joy and laughter to those who had the pleasure of knowing her. From the girls at “Governors” who ALWAYS made her day, Tina her hairdresser who each Friday, made her “bootiful”, to her doctor , who once told her that he should have her as his last appointment every Friday afternoon as it was a perfect way to end his work week. She always said, “Might as well laugh while you can”.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Florence Carrier Bilodeau and Leonie Turgeon; four brothers, Albert, Antonio, Joseph and Laurier Giroux.
Survivors include one son, Daniel L. Giguere and his wife Paula of Rome; two grandsons, Daniel P. Giguere and his wife Alexandra of Bradenton, FL, and Zackary D. Giguere of Steep Falls; two great grandsons , Daniel W.J.P. Giguere and Alexandre W. B. Giguere also of Bradenton. Special family and friends include her brother- in-law Raoul Giguere and his wife Stella. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors, David and Donna Rose of Winslow.
At Lucille’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Her life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass at 11 am on Friday January 7, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Church, 47 Monument Street in Winslow with Fr. Dan Baillargeon as celebrant. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta in the Spring.
Lucille’s family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Lovitz and everyone associated with Maine General (Thayer unit) and Oak Grove Nursing Care Center for the compassionate care (especially for our Christmas miracle, you know who you are). In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucille’s memory may be made to St. John’s School Tuition Assistance, 15 South Garand Street, Winslow, ME 04901.
