AUGUSTA- Pauline M. Hebert passed away peacefully, on August 2, 2026. She was born on January 4, 1927, to Hazel (Arsenault) and William Nadeau. She attended Waterville schools and was a life-long resident of the Winslow/Waterville community. 

Pauline started her career at the Hathaway Shirt Company and worked in the “collars and cuffs” section. At this job, she met a friend, Loretta Hebert Poulin, who told her of her brother who was in the Navy, overseas, and could really use some mail. Pauline started sending “care packages” to Loretta’s brother, Gerard, for many months. When Gerard came back home to Winslow, he wanted to thank Pauline for her correspondence and packages, so he invited her to dinner on a double date with his sister and her husband. They never dated anyone else and married in 1947. 

Pauline’s real joy was being a wife and mother. Although she had a difficult time carrying, she finally gave birth to a baby girl, Karen, in 1960. Pauline often hosted family get-togethers during holidays and always loved having her nieces and nephews at her home. 

Pauline was a 70+ year member of St. John’s parish. Once Her daughter was in school, Pauline went back to work at Cottle’s Supermarket in the bakery department. She was often teased about her role of ”making the donuts” at 4:30 every morning. She was also a Girl Scout leader and band parent. She loved local football games, the Red Sox, and helping Gerard with the yard work they both loved. They took great pride in their home and the grounds they had on the Garland Road for over 50 years. 

Pauline was pre-deceased by her parents; hr husband, Gerard; and her siblings, Maurice (June) Nadeau, Erlon (Bertha) Nadeau, Franklin (Rita) Nadeau, Rethea (Babe) Beaulieu, Theresa (Robert) Smith, and Kathryn (Donald) Green. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Van Orman and her husband, Scott, of Naples, FL and Sidney, ME; four granddaughters, Melissa, Jennifer, Lauren, and Maria. She also has three great-grandchildren, Letta, Eli, and Clara; and many nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Michele and husband, Dominic Carter; Lynne and husband Larry Denis (deceased); Gail Nadeau; Veronica Hunt; and a special nephew and Godson, Michael, and wife Ann Poulin. She also had very special friendships with Muriel Rancourt (deceased) and Carmen McGee. 

The Hebert family would like to thank Sunset Home for the wonderful care they provided over the last several years. Also, the Maine Veterans’ Home was absolutely the best care she could have had in her last weeks. 

At Pauline’s request, there will be no viewing. Funeral services will be private for the family.
