Obituary

Peter A. LaBonte, 71, of Waterville, Maine, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.

Born on August 28, 1955, to Roland and Grace (Grady) LaBonte, Peter grew up in Waterville and attended local schools. In 1974, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Sylvania as an electrical repairman until his honorable discharge in 1978.

After returning home, Peter worked at Kimberly-Clark (Scott Paper Company) in Winslow for 12 years, until the mill closed. He later continued his career as an electrician with the local IBEW until his retirement.

Peter was a quiet man who found happiness in the simple things in life. Over the years, he could often be found on the sidelines, proudly watching his children play soccer. He enjoyed reading and doing the daily crossword puzzle, rarely letting one in the newspaper go unfinished, and he had a genuine love of history. Each Christmas, his kids kept up a special tradition of giving him a daily calendar filled with jokes, Jeopardy questions, or bits of history, a gift he always looked forward to and enjoyed throughout the year.

In the summer months, he loved watching his grandson Lincoln learn to swim and proudly showing off his tricks from the diving board. It was especially meaningful because it happened in the same pool where he had once watched his own kids grow up and spend their summers.

Peter will be deeply missed by his daughters, Nicole and Melissa; his sons, Jacob and Joshua; and his beloved grandson, Lincoln. He also leaves behind his brothers, Paul and Thomas; his sisters, Catherine and Rachel; as well as his extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Grace LaBonte.

We would like to extend a special thank you to his nurse, Lynda, and MaineGeneral HomeCare & Hospice for their compassionate care. We are forever grateful to his sister Rachel and brother Tom for being there each day and helping make it possible for Dad to remain comfortably at home. We would also like to thank Debbie LaBonte, the mother of his children, for her support and help along the way.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
