Obituary

RICHARD C. EMERY 1939-2020 BELGRADE LAKES—Richard C. Emery passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland on November 16, 2020, following several years of failing health. He was born on November 11, 1939, in Benton, the son of Carroll and Marguerite (Peters) Emery. Shortly after graduating from Lawrence High School, class of 1959, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The Navy recruiter lived next door. He served in the Navy from August 1959 to April 1979. During his tour of duty in the Navy he served on the U.S.S Little Rock CLG 4, the U.S.S. Waldo County LST 1163, the U.S.S. Davis DD 937, the U.S.S. H.W. Gilmore AS 16 and the U.S.S. Caron DD 970. Richard retired as Chief Petty Officer and moved to Pascagoula, Mississippi where he was employed at Ingalls Shipyard until 1999, retiring as a supervisor. Then came the call of the Maine lakes and woods and he moved to Long Pond in Belgrade Lakes where he resided until his death. Richard was predeceased by his parents; his son, Eric Emery; and his brothers-in-law, Robert King and Daniel Bacheller. He is survived by his daughter, Carrie (Rob) Vigue; his sisters, Carolyn King and Gail Bacheller; his brother, Bernard (Dru); his daughter-in-law, Pam Harrington; his granddaughter, Sydney Emery; his grandsons, Dylan Emery and his companion, Amy, Justin (Melisa) Vigue and daughter, Raegan, Dana (Leah) Vigue and daughter, Lyla; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
