Obituary

FREEPORT – CHASE, Sandra, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024. She will be forever loved and missed by her family. Sandy was born in Waterville on February 25, 1938, the daughter of Sam and Najeba (Elkhouri) Simon. Sandy was a lifelong resident of Waterville, growing up in a large Lebanese family on Percival Court. Surrounded by her wonderful parents, siblings, aunts, and uncles, she developed a love for dancing and cooking. As a caretaker to her parents through the end of their lives, her gentle and loving ways provided them with great comfort. In 1965, Sandy married Francis Chase, a handsome Merchant Marine who swept her off her feet. Together, they started a legacy of love, raising three children and rescuing several special cats. When Francis returned from the sea, they owned and ran Lake Parlin Lodges in Jackman. This is where Sandy honed her hostess skills. Her holiday spreads were legendary, and her kids still seek to recreate her famous turkey. Sandy worked as a phlebotomist, medical assistant, and later as a bookkeeper for several prominent doctors in the area. A huge baseball fan, she cheered on her sons and of course her beloved Boston Red Sox. Sandy's life was defined not by the accumulation of 'things' but by the people who loved her and whom she loved in return. By all measures Sandy gathered fans throughout her life including our many friends who often found fresh baked cookies after school at our castle on Violette Avenue. The thing to remember is Sandy loved fiercely and her family cherished their forever champion. Above all, her family was her greatest joy. Sandra was predeceased by her parents, brothers Simon, Louis, and Moses Simon, and sisters Mae Burgess, Nancy Simon, and Helen Ballew. She also lost her beloved husband, Francis Chase, in 2015. She is survived by her three children: Kimberly and her husband Ed of South Portland; Dan and his wife Kelly of Brunswick; and Mark and his wife Lynne of Parrish, FL. Sandra is also survived by her sister-in-law Patsy Morse of Grafton, MA, and her beloved grandchildren Olivia, Tori, Will, Ryan, and Kendra, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hawthorne House and Beacon Hospice for their exceptional and loving care. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th, at Veilleux-Redington-Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville, Maine. Burial will follow the service.
