PALERMO, MAINE—Susie K. Potter, of Palermo, Maine went to be with her Lord and Savior as she passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012, surrounded by her loved ones, following her valiant fight with a rare condition. She was born in Liberty, Maine on April 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucy (Moody) Whitaker. Susie graduated as class salutatorian from Erskine Academy, class of 1953. She married Robert B. Potter on July 25, 1953, and the couple shared many wonderful years together until his passing on March 5, 2005. She was employed by the Selective Service for a time, and retired from the VA Hospital in Augusta, Maine in 1998, where she worked as a secretary in Social Work Service. As a child, Susie was a member of 4H. As an adult she was a very active member of the Palermo Second Baptist Church, even having services at her home when they were without a Pastor. She was also very involved with community events in the town of Palermo. She enjoyed simply being with her family as they meant the world to her. Many of her happiest times were spent at family gatherings, especially BBQ's. Susie was a very giving person who had a smile that would comfort the most troubled soul. Her smile and thoughtful ways will be sadly missed. Besides her parents and her beloved husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Eltheia, Wilma, and Vera Isabell. Susie will be greatly missed by her sons, Robert P. Potter, Bruce W. Potter, Lyndon K. Potter, and Todd E. Potter and his wife, Teresa all of Palermo, Maine; her daughters, Christine A. Saban and her husband, Oscar of Palermo, Maine, Jennifer L. Pelton and her husband, Jay of China, Maine, and Vera L. Stillman and her husband, Wayne of Windsor, Maine; 14 siblings; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 13 at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home-Gray Chapel, 207 Windsor Neck Rd., Windsor, Maine. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 14 at South Liberty Baptist Church, 2895 Burketville Road, Liberty, Maine. Burial will follow at the family cemetery in Palermo, Maine.
