Veronica Sitnik Vigue

Waterville-Veronica (“Ronnie”) Sitnik Vigue, 91, formerly of Benton Avenue, Winslow, passed away Sunday, September 8, at the Oak Grove Center in Waterville, with family by her side.

Veronica was born February 12, 1922 in Benton, Maine, daughter of John and Frances Sitnik. Ronnie was proud of her Polish heritage and loved growing up on the family farm with her two brothers and six sisters. She was especially close to her older sister, Josie. Veronica was educated in Fairfield schools, earning her diploma from Lawrence High. As a young girl, she worked for several local businesses, including McLellan’s in Waterville, where she met Real J. Vigue. They were married on September 30, 1943 at St. John the Baptist Church. Real and Ronnie built a home and raised their family on Benton Avenue in Winslow, where she lived until ill health brought her to Oak Grove. Veronica was a loving woman, strong in mind and body. She never shied away from hard work, and was an independent thinker, voicing her opinions with great conviction. Ronnie was fiercely dedicated to her family. With much love, determination, and plenty of laughter, she instilled in her children and grandchildren the values of kindness, compassion, and integrity, along with the value of a good education and of a job well done. Besides being an excellent housekeeper, she supported her husband in the family lumber business, C. H. Vigue & Sons. Everything she did was improved by her hand, and everyone she cared for was enriched by her love and strength of character.

Veronica was predeceased by her husband of 51 years; her parents; brothers John and Henry; sisters Germaine Goslicki, Leona Libby, Monica McAleer and Wilamena Smith; and grandson Jason Brill. She is survived by her children, Linda Ellis and her husband, Norman, of Clinton; Richard Vigue and his wife, Laurie, of Winslow; grandchildren Nicole Dorr and her husband, Joel, of Winslow, who lived with her and cared for her for many years, and Derek Brill of Sebago; sisters Joan and husband, Dr. Paul Marshall, of Fairfield and Josie Holt of Benton; several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff at Oak Grove Center. Their compassionate care made Veronica’s final months much more bearable for all of us.

Family and friends are invited for visitation hours between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, September 11, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winslow.
