Wheeler Funeral Home 26 Church Street Oakland, Maine extremely 207-465-3011 Canaan: Wendell R. Jones 58, died unexpectedly Wednesday October 15, 2014 at his home with his beloved wife at his side. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa on June 24, 1956 the only son of Gordon and Beverly (Hoak) Jones. Wendell was raised and educated in Clifton Heights, PA. He entered the U.S. Air Force immediately after high school and was especially proud of his service in the Red Horse Division. He was a Viet Nam Veteran. He later continued his military career with the Special Forces in the US Army. Wendell held several jobs, primarily as a truck driver for Lipman Poultry, Hillcrest Poultry, Greyhound Bus and a logging company in Bingham. His most recent employment was with Keyes Fibre/VanLeer. He was a competitive shooter and a member of several gun clubs, including Capital Pistol of Augusta. He loved 4 wheeling, fly fishing, and honing his survival skills. Wendell was incredibly generous to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers, often doing thoughtful and deliberate anonymous acts of kindness. He was extremely well loved in his neighborhood and by all who knew him. He was known as a loyal patriot and an honorable man. Wendell was predeceased by his mother Beverly Jones. Surviving are his loving wife Rita York of Canaan, his cherished daughter Heather York of Old Town, his father Gordon R. Jones of Clifton Heights, Pa., his step father Ralph Thomas of Windsor, sisters, Rachel Millett of Windsor, Gretchen Patrick of Randolph, and Israel Cunningham of Pittston, step brothers and sisters, Connie Kiewel of Orlando, Fl., Vivian Wellman of Bradenton, Fl., Lynn O Conner of Blue Bell Pa., Earl Cunningham of Niceville, Fl., and Randy Cunningham of Melville, NY., many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 PM on Saturday October 25 at Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services 26 Church Street Oakland.
